We’ve received a lot of really helpful input from folks on the site and on this blog. A big thank you to all of you.
Here’s an update on several of the issues and questions we’re working on:

  1. Account Set-Up – We’ve heard from several people that they’ve encountered problems during registration. Specifically some of you have reported not receiving the confirmation email. While we’re busy troubleshooting this issue, we recommend you check the “junk mail” or “spam” folder of your email client to see if the confirmation message was inadvertently re-routed there. In addition to the phantom email problem we’re looking into, we’ve also had some reports that the validation code is not working. If you have been affected by this, we would request you to submit a detailed description of it here so we can locate the problem and get it fixed.
  2. Image Uploading and File Size – We will be making the image upload requirements clearer on the site – apologies to those of you that have had issues with the process. The way things stand right now, our system requires a minimum for pixel dimensions, not a minimum total resolution. These minimums are set at 1500 pixels high, and 2100 pixels wide. We realize that this is a little limiting, and that many images are submitted that are at or above 3.2 mega pixels, with dimensions that might be very different from our minimums. We are looking into changing our requirements to be based on a minimum total resolution of 3.2mega pixels, and not minimum dimensions, and we will post an update here and in our FAQ page when we do.
  3. IPTC data from photos – We’ve heard you loud and clear that this is a feature you want. It will take a bit of time for us to ship it so bear with us. We’ll post an update here and in our FAQ when we have a better idea of when this feature will be available. (For those of you that don’t know what IPTC data is, you might find this description helpful.)
  4. Royalty payment timeframes – The bean counters are busy at work exploring ways to reduce the number of days between the end of the month and when your royalty payment arrives. Again, we’ll post an update when we have one.

If you have any questions or comments about any of this or would like to just share your opinion, please add a comment. We really appreciate your input.

payment via moneybookers???

I think that watermarks are too small and in the wrong place (left upper corner). The quality of the preview images is good… it’s enough for website use.

What about thr review time? What is the average at the moment? Thanks SY (hospitalera)

4. Fenton Ayres - June 28, 2007

Exactly how long is the review process? I have pics that I uploaded two days ago that are still pending.

5. Dion - June 28, 2007

In regards to royalty payments.

When will you guys be adding payment by cheque, and hopefully Moneybookers? As a South African, I cannot receive payment via Paypal, and so need another option before I consider loading images here.

I don’t see a link for a “Portfolio” page with my account. Where is it?

7. JohnC - June 30, 2007

If you are logged in and at the SnapVillage home page (https://www.snapvillage.com/Default.aspx) on the right side of the page you should see Hello (your name here) and below that a link to View Your Portfolio.

How I can remove the image, whcih has been accepted, or is currently pending for review?

9. Nikita - July 2, 2007

In Russia one can’t use PayPal! Add other payment methods, preferably moneybookers, please 🙂

I’m gonna upload my portfolio as soon as ftp/iptc is available… Just don’t have time to make it all by hand!

Approval times took 8 days for me.

One of the pictures has a property release to go with it, however when I try to upload the form it gives me an error, saying file must be of type. The question, what type? It doesnt say. I so far have tried doc, docx, rtf, and PDF, and even CVS. Grrrrr…..

Has anyone else had problems setting up their Public Profile? Everytime I try an error message comes up saying I must enter a postcode (which I have) and it must be integer(?). Is this because I have a UK postcode which is letters and numbers? Or is this just a Beta problem? Today uploaded first pictures at third attempt so things are going more smoothly!

12. ig - July 10, 2007

My 6 mega pixel images are shown as “medium 1500×2100” =3.2 mega pixel.
I don’t really like this kind of “rounding”

13. Teralee - September 5, 2007

I did email support, but experiencing error trying to sign up with a message constantly stating the security image is timing out after 120 seconds. Either the period before timeout needs to be extended to account for slow server at peak periods, or get rid of that feature altogether perhaps? Perhaps it is unrelated to speed at all, but a glitch?

14. Tom - September 20, 2007

Does SnapVillage accept a Model Release other than the one provided by SnapVillage? How a model release in spanish, greek, german, etc? What if the release is not a SnapVillage release? If in fact SanpVillage requires the use of their release, what if the photograph was taken a year ago, thus, the model would not be available to sign a new one ? So many questions…little answers – so far! I assume we only put up with this because it’s Corbis.

15. Mr. Concerned - September 26, 2007

When Corbis first open doors people were saying that its database was full of less than mediocre images mixed with some good ones. How many underexposed or overexposed pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge does it need to have? Who is choosing the images? Search for the word “swimming pool” and see how many images you would delete at the blink of an eye. SnapVillage needs to hire some people just to remove unsatisfactory images. It’s no secret that SnapVillage is out for quantity – but have mercy – not this way. Too many less than mediocre repetitive images. We all like a bargain but a quality bargain. Ohhh…and by the way, I’m not only a member I’m also a client.
